Based on the findings of the Academic Misconduct Benchmarking Research Project (AMBeR) and the findings of a national consultation exercise with UK universities the resulting penalty tariff for student plagiarism attempts to offer guidance to institutions in assigning penalties in an objective, consistent and transparent manner. The points-based tariff allows institutions to assign a score based on a range of factors for each case of student plagiarism and then allocate a specific penalty from a range available.
