Why do students plagiarize? According to anthropologist, Susan Blum, the "Internet is part of the story, but not in the way people usually think about it." She goes on to point out that morality "is also part of the problem, but not because most students are immoral."

In this webcast, we explore the cultural contexts of student cheating and the implications of the research findings for educators, institutions, and academic policies.

Susan Blum is Professor and Chair in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame. Among her publications are "My Word! Plagiarism and College Culture" (2009) and "Lies that Bind: Chinese Truth, Other Truths" (2007). She is currently conducting research on the conflict between learning and schooling.
